August was a fun month. Early on we went to Irvine and spent the day with Jake after he returned from Japan. We went to lunch and Laguna Beach where we enjoyed the sand for a little while. It was a beautiful day there.

One weekend, Ben and Jake came over for a couple of nights. We enjoyed a night cart ride, walking, & swimming. It's always fun to hang out with them.

Michael has started being independent on his laptop. He's been resuming writing his book -- which was one of his favorite pastimes, pre-stroke -- and even though he's very slow, he can do it! He's patient with himself and tries so hard. It's super exciting to see this progress.

We've made a lot of new friends recently here at Four Seasons. Everyone we've met has been so wonderful to us. We've been invited a several events in the past 10 days. One of the funnest things we did was go to game night at the Lodge and play a version of Password (like the old game show) For the last round, one of the ladies at our table convinced M to go up with her. He did amazingly well as the guesser and actually was the best of anyone at our table. I was on the sidelines feeling like a cheerleader at a high school football game. It was so awesome to see him get himself out there and be involved.

I've been enjoying karaoke and line dancing. We have kept pretty busy and even attended a couple of parties. There are some super fun people around here. We're always so grateful to have moved here.

All is well

Things are going well. We just hit the FOUR year post-stroke mark last week. IN-FRICKING-CREDIBLE! Seems like a lifetime ago but other times it seems like last year. Michael continues to do well. He had a CT of the brain last month and all looks good. Doc just wants to repeat every few years to be sure blood flow is normal and the stent in the vertebral artery is holding up. Gym, twice a week and walking are our main activities.  We went nearly 3 miles just today. M is strong and wonderful!! Most importantly he is happy and positive. Here he is on a recent walk in our neighborhood. The sun is shining, the birds are chirping. We LOVE our slice of paradise.

Saturday Update

Our final Saturday as an inpatient. Yay! M is doing his one hour of OT right now with our buddy Jean from Haiti. He rocked the bike thing again for 20 minutes this time. He had another entirely choke-free lunch and had me laughing a couple of times with his facial expressions..reactions to a couple of things that happened while there. He is expressing his excitement to go home. The nurses are already telling him they are going to miss him. ☺

Rehab is near!

Today we were visited by a rep to inform us that Michael was accepted by Ballard Rehabilitation Hospital in San Bernardino for inpatient services. Our Kaiser insurance will cover up to 100 days of rehab. I cried more tears...but these were tears of joy! Michael will be going there as soon as tomorrow afternoon! He will continue medical services and receive 3+ hours of therapy per day. Right after the rep left we got to have lunch. And WOW did that guy eat! He is still on a pureed diet in that there is still worry he might aspirate his food. But the way that went down, I have no doubt he will do great when they reevaluate his swallowing capabilities. We spent some time looking at pictures of our life over the past few months on my Chromebook. The new house and our recent trip to La Jolla. He enjoyed looking at them while listening to Jazz music where he often knew the names of the songs and one time started singing! When the nurses come in they all agree I am starting him on his t...
